  8.                         INTRODUCTION
  9.  
  10. It is possible that users may need to perform a manual
  11. installation of DR DOS if the normal DR DOS installation fails or
  12. if a custom installation is required. If the installation fails
  13. while executing SYS.COM the customer should manually "SYS" the
  14. drive (see steps 1-3) and continue with steps 4-13. If the
  15. installation fails when copying files to the disk (due to possible
  16. media error) but the target disk has been "SYSed" with DR DOS 6 the
  17. users can proceed with just steps 4-13.

  19.                         INSTRUCTIONS
  20.  
  21. Note: for this example of a manual installation we have assumed
  22. that the bootable partition is lettered C:.  If your bootable
  23. partition is labeled other than C:, please replace "C:" below
  24. with the drive letter representing your bootable partition.

  27. The instructions for a manual install are as follows:
  28.  
  29.  
  30. 1.  Boot the DR DOS Startup diskette to the first installation
  31.     screen. (If this is a 360K set of disks strike CTRL-C, then Y
  32.     when the screen asks you to insert the Utilities #1 disk.
  33.     Proceed with step 3.)
  34.  
  35. 2.  Break out of the installation by pressing <F10> and choosing
  36.     "Exit to DR DOS".
  37.  
  38. 3.  From the A: prompt type "SYS C:"  This will transfer the proper
  39.     boot files from the installation diskette in drive A: to your C:
  40.     bootable partition.  Now drive C: is a bootable DR DOS 6.0
  41.     drive.
  42.  
  43. 4.  Move to the C: root directory.  This would be accomplished by
  44.     typing "C:" and then "CD\"
  45.  
  46. 5.  Type "MD DRDOS."  This will create a DR DOS directory on your C:
  47.     drive.
  48.  
  49. 6.  Type "A:"  This will move you back to the A: root directory.
  50.  
  51. 7.  Type "COPY *.* C:\DRDOS."  This will transfer all of the files
  52.     from the installation diskette to the C:\DRDOS subdirectory.
  53.  
  54. 8.  Repeat step #7 (above) with the remaining DR DOS 6.0 diskettes.
  55.  
  56. 9.  Move to the DR DOS subdirectory on the C: drive.  This would be
  57.     accomplished by typing "C:" and then "CD\DRDOS"
  58.  
  59. 10. Type "MOVE SSTORDRV.SYS C:\"  This moves the SSTORDRV.SYS device
  60.     driver to its proper position in the C: root directory.
  61.  
  62. 11. Type "MOVE DEVSWAP.COM C:\"  This moves the DEVSWAP.COM device
  63.     driver to its proper position in the C: root directory.
  64.  
  65. 12. Type "REN INSTALL.EXE SETUP.EXE."  This renames the INSTALL.EXE
  66.     to SETUP.EXE which is the setup program for DR DOS 6.0.

  68. 13. type "SETUP."  This executes the setup program and will allow
  69.     the customer to manually configure and install all of the
  70.     individual portions of DR DOS 6.0.

  74.                         NOTES
  75.  
  76. Files on the DR DOS 6.0 diskette may fail to transfer to the DR
  77. DOS subdirectory if the initial automated installation failed
  78. due to a media (diskette) error.  If this is the case, focus on
  79. copying as much of the operating system into the DR DOS
  80. subdirectory as possible and manually installing using SETUP.  
  81.  
  82. Example: if the Viewmax portion of the installation results in a
  83. diskette error, skip this installation portion and continue to
  84. install as much of the remaining portions of DR DOS.

  86. Please contact the Digital Research Technical Support if you
  87. were unable to successfully install any portion of DR DOS.
